Bringing dance pioneer Meers Cunningham to the forefront of popular culture, modern dance changed the way people thought about dance before it even appeared. Cunningham’s dance, on the other hand, emphasized technique and unpredictability, expressiveness, and freedom.  An important and unique aspect of modern dance is that it rejects the importance of the foot, which is emphasized in many traditional dances. Instead, modern dance focuses on the movement of the torso, allowing for smooth, slow movements rather than sharp, sharp  movements.
